First off I have to say this site us great. This site comvinced me to get back into riding and doing that on a Harley !
I picked up a brand new 2011 fxs blackline back in June.
It now has about 2600 miles and s couple issues
Since I got it I've had to put about 2 liters of oil. Every now and the the oil light comes on and after 45 seconds or do the bike will begin to knock. I shut the bike wait a few seconds and start it up. She'll run perfect !! I'll check the levels and it's all good. Sometimes it comes back after a couple minutes and I'll just repeat the process.
that's more oil between changes than I have added to 4 HDs in 10 yrs. Take it back to the dealer and let them fix it under warranty. A guy had an issue sometime back this summer with a plug left in the oil tank by the manufacturers--actually whoever painted them, I think it was an X-Bones. That wasn't causing an oil consumption problem though. You should be able to see where that much oil is coming from if you've only ridden it 2600 miles. Either there is a big blue cloud behind you or a mess on your bike somewhere. Good luck.
Its odd because theres no oil anywhere when the bime is parked and ive never seen any smoke at all to hint the oil burning. there was an oil change in there though which i should have mentioned so a liter of oil at about 900 miles and an other liter at about 2000 miles.
Ok so I brought the bike it, explained what was going on and asked for the first service at the same time.
2 hours later, I'm told the bike is ready and good to go. No issues found. Great !
Ride it home and park it. Yesterday, I take it out, and 30 miles in, the light comes on. Only this time, it won't go away when I restart it. Check oil level, its good. WTF. Wait about 15 minutes, start it and she's fine.
An other 20 miles and the light comes on, only this time, followed immediately by engine knocking like crazy. and Im losing power. I pull over shut it, wait, restart, still knocking. Tried twice more over 2 hours and still knocks. I towed it to the dealer and left it there. They can only look at it tomorrow (today is a holiday).
Im hoping this is all under warranty, specially since the work order states customer (me) says oil light comes on regularly but level is ok)
This is the first time, in the 5 years I've been on this forum, I've read of a complaint like yours. Hopefully your dealer will find and fix your problem.
Please keep us updated.
Good luck,
Tom
That's highly possible. It sounds like your oil isn't circulating, or possibly very low circulation. When you checked your oil, did you notice if it was hot?
If the motor is damaged from lack of oil circulation, push them for replacement rather than repair.
