Default 2011 Fat Boy Lo... bad fork

I'd had my bike in to the dealer since 3000 miles with a bad front end shimmy while slowing down. First time they cranked down the fork bearing nut. Second time (4500 miles), I also complained about a rattle coming from the front end. 2 days later, claimed the nut was still in spec, and never heard a rattle. Driving it out, I heard the rattle right away. Knowing the dealer would never "hear" the rattle, I just rode it. F@#k it, right...? 7300 miles now, and we're getting ready for 350 miles on this beautiful 76 degree autumn day in Wisconsin. Meet at the gas station, after I spend a half hour detailing everything. I get there, get off to fill up, and notice the tank, air cleaner and fender on the right side is covered in something looking like coffee. Touch it, smell it... not coffee, oil. After further inspection, find out my right fork top nut has TOTALLY unthread itself, and is spewing oil everywhere. Including my jeans. Take it to the dealer to get it fixed quick.... nope! No techs in today. Oh, and they never took that cover off in prior visits. Oh, they've never seen a fork in this shape before either.

Glad I bought a new bike to avoid crap like this.

Glad I get a free loaner bike. Oh, only if I have a spare $1000 in my bank account. Nope, I don't, but they gave me a free ride home.

I'm pissed.

Cool forks

WOW, that really sucks . . . this is a new one for me.
1250 on 2010 LoBoy, and no problems like that. I still have the 'Fatboy' wobble on decel, but I have learned to live with it. . .

Hang in there . . .

Brotha' you need to find a new dealer to do your work for you. It seems to me that those boys can't even do a simple fall away adjustment of your front end. It's not about the "nut" being in spec., it's about the fall away being in spec. I wish you luck dealing with your front end issues.

There is no "Fatboy wobble"...it's the bearings out of adjustment. Fix it and it will be gone!

Clearly your dealer is an A$$HOLE and sucks.

Sorry for your grief.

Did the threads for the fork cap strip or did the cap just come unthreaded? IF they just came unthreaded, drain the fork, refill with oil and put the cap back on. Yes, the dealer should have checked trhis but they did not. Start doing your own work on the bike is my advice. Get a manual $60. It is the best $60 you will ever spend.

Well mine does ! Had the dealer adjust it at 1000 and after three weeks and another 2k it was back. Now the dealer said it was a maintence issue, and wants to charge me . . . . the tire pressure is right at specs. and the fall away seeems to be in line, so I jst live with it.

I might pull the front end off the winter and check the bearing and race myself.

The bike is out of warranty now and only has 12k . . . .

Yup, I have a manual. Yes, it just unthreaded. My bike's still under warranty, which is something I've never had before with used vehicles. And I'm having them do it more or less to rub their noses in it that I was correct in knowing there was more of a problem then they had come to believe. The dealership owner's been notified, and he's more into the customer satisfaction aspect than anyone else there... we'll see where this goes.
