Hello fellow scooter enthusiast. I am almost 100% convince that I am going to upgrade my bars to 14-16" apes on my fat boy lo.
My question to everyone with apes on lo's is how is the ride comfort for long rides?
I want to still put +300 miles a day when I ride. Does anyone ride that much with their apes? Or should I go with a different bar? No matter the end result will be a bar change to give more pull back and to relax my elbows but still be able to handle good in the turns.
This probably won't help, but I have 12-inch mini-apes on my Heritage and it's very comfortable. If your hands are above your shoulders, you might have problems on long runs. I got cruise control on mine and whenever my arm gets tired, I just put her on cruise...
I personally have 16's with a 3 inch riser and ride every day for an hour each way to work. I also ride out on the weekends for several hours at a time and don't have any comfort issues. I am also 6'7" so I don't know if that helps.
I know Drew (Dr. V-twin) has similar height apes on his scoot and recently completed a long *** ride without any problems.
I have done a lot of looking into this and I will be going with the Carlini flying apes in 14" with the stock risers. Sat on a lot of bikes and the 14's will put right at to just a hair over shoulders and I am 5'10". I put a little over 15k miles on the bike this year and the apes are really going to help with long distance riding. I also had the 12.5" miniapes on my old wideglide and am using that as referance too.
I went 14.5" LA Choppers on the stock risers (1.5"). I have ridden a 400 mile day without issues. I also have a C&C seat and am 5'9" for reference. As long as you don't go above your shoulders, you should be good. I'll never go back to lower bars...
I can ride all day with my 16" Carlini's. 300 miles is no problem for me. That being said not everyone responds or feels comfortable sitting the same way. But for me that is the msot comfortable way there is to ride.
Beasley and Dr. V thanks for the input it really helps as i only have a few miles on another bike with apes and 3000 on mine with out so user feed back really helps me and my decision.
