The stock seats on most of the softails are not vey comfortable for long rides. If you are young and tough this may not be a problem for you.
I think the Deluxe seat is a fantastic looking seat but its not comfortable for long rides. I have the 05 deluxe and the seat has very little back support. I added a gel pad and put on a backbrace and that helped some. But the fix was a new Sundowner two up seat for my wife and I and that is much better.
If you put on a Deluxe seat I would follow the advice of one of the posters and get the seat rebuilt with stronger foam or built in gel pad and put in some back support for your tailbone. If you don't you will be in the market for an expensive aftermarket seat soon. Say a Mustang or Corbin at a $500 + price.
The Sundowner Seat is about $300. Maybe your dealer will let you put one on and ride a short distance to try it out.
Green,
Mike NY is actually running a Springer Seat from a few years back. Ive got the same on mine. There is a passenger rail available too. Check the Posts, some Deluxe owners kept their seats, but ordered the big rail, and it bolted right on.
Yep, beats the stock Deluxe seat hands down. I bought the Handrail a while ago for my stock Deluxe seat but just picked up the HS Seat brand new from Chicago Harley and moved the rail to the new seat. The pad is still available in the Harley 07 catalog. The Rail is not but you may still be able to order it. They show up on Ebay from time to time as well.
I put an 05 Springer classic seat on my 06 Deluxe and it's more comfortable that the Deluxe seat. The springer sits me back a little further as well, good for us tall guys. Nevertheless, the deluxe seat will fit the Springer classic with no problems.

Thanks!! I've been wondering that for a while. I would like to trade my springer classic seat and pillion for a deluxe seat, rail, pillion, and rack. I'll probably then have a canvas shop rework the cusion (gel, memory foam, etc). Anyone want to trade?
