Yes, it can be detachable....taking off 2 bolts releases it from the handlebar mounted clamps. You would have to put quick disconnects on the positive and negative leads that come from the back of the unit and are routed to the battery area.
It also comes in a slightly smaller version. The only difference is the smaller version comes with 4" speakers versus the 5 1/4" speakers that are shown in the pics and also has a smaller housing.

The HD system is quite stylish, yet it totally lacks in functon for sound.
Thats a great price on a fairing with sound. I just didn't want to do the full fairing look.
