Default Good performance Carb suggestions

Any good suggestions for a fairly maintenance free, reliable performance carb for an '02 88 cu in??

I run an S&S Super E. Seems like a great carb, good instructions on the web to tune it, old school look (with the air cleaner), etc.

Prior to that, I had a sporty with the stock CV. I took it apart quite a bit, and frankly think it was pretty good too. (I took it apart because of tank issues, not carb issues.)

Best of luck.

I had the Mikuni HSR42 flatslide carb on my '99 FXDX with the 88 c.i. motor (upgraded to 95). No issues ever...

There are options but it's pretty hard to beat the OEM CV40. Unless you have a motor capable of horsepower greater than about 110, the OEC CV40 will get the job done. Personally, I think the Woods modified CVs are better performers than the Mik or the S&S; JMHO.

MIKUNI was and I stiil think the 4 barrel add on for HD's.

They where the tops 40yrs ago and IMO still are the tops in bolt on carbs.

Harley sells the Mikuni 42 in a Screaming Eagle kit that includes an adapter to mount stock or like type air cleaners. I swapped out my CV to the Mukini on a 2003 Night Train and immediately had a smile on my face when I fired up the bike. Improved throttle response and overall performance and the Mukini is very easy to tune. Highly recommend it.
