OK...I finally took the time at a local dealership to try out new bars on a FB demo/fit model a few days ago. I was curious on how a 35.5" wide bar would feel like since I am narrowing down a new one soon. All they had was a beach bar which I was very surprised how comfortable it was but a bit to low. But not the point here...I tried a bunch of stocks. And the only bars that somewhat felt right was the slammers on the narrow side. So after leaving the dealership I went to an Indy and they had a few bikes with aftermarkets. And was surprised how better they felt even the apes.
On the way home I remembered when I first researched my bike on how HD showcases their proud ergonomic studies for the best general fit. Part of me says BS. Yes I have wider shoulders than most but still average height of 5'11"...I should still be in the normal one would think. Anyways I left feeling that the bars lack imagination and thought. As for the seats (which I also swapped), at least the fatboy LO seat is pretty much comfortable, where other HD stocks didn't feel right.
HD ergonomic studies...I just don't see much effort.
Another thing...if HD doesn't want to supply a wider array of styles and fits, why not endorse someone like 'Wild One' that does.
I am probably missing something here...
Anyhoo My 2 cents.

Most of the ergonomic displays I've seen had a few bars too from mini apes and a few stock bars. The biggest problem is using the same seat you ride with now sometimes easy as with stock seats. seating postion plays a part of it too. Bars and seats are the 2 hardest parts to buy the right ones. I have 3 sets of bars and 4 seats to finally get the right combo thats comfy for me to ride more than an hour at a time.
I think the fitting station is a joke simply because at my dealer they have one bike a fatboy. There should be one of each model with all the bars/seats etc to try.
Now when I say one of each model I think Harley should supply the dealers with a very stripped down version of the models. Doesn't need a motor, brakes, etc...... Just basically the frame and a place to put your feet so that u can get a feel for different seats a bar combinations.
