If the dealership that did some work involving the brakes screwed up, that's not factory warranty I don't think. If no one has touched the brakes then any dealership should cover it. I wish people would post the dealer's name when you get this kind of treatment so that we can all avoid the place.

I took my ride to the selling dealer for 3 problems. Knoxville Harley on Lovell Road. Had been there with same complaint. #1; Loud pop in front end when @ crack in the pavement. Told them I fount the steering head dry and put about 5 ounces of grease in it but no help many miles ago. One service writer said it was probably the clutch cable against the frame. Another advisor thought the tank was probably loose. True, I'm a slow learner and a couple days ago, went back with detailed written instructions with diaghram of a crack in pavement less than 50 yards from them where it will jar your teeth at bridge/pavement joint. Technican wrote up he couldn't duplicate the problem. Ever heard that before? #2; Check clutch, wrote down several things going on to make me think it needs adjusting. Told him I had tried a couple of diferent oils in transmission and primary and reasons why. His only coment was "you have voided your waranty." I knew by now I didn't want to enter talk with him about that. On the way home, clutch was only "active" when the lever was about 1" from handle bar. Balance total free play. #3; Adjust rear shocks out for a 250 lb. rider since the book say factory set for 160 lb. rider. Cannot tell if adjusted or not. Next day I called SMOKEY MOUNTAIN HARLEY in Maryville and axed what the chance they could see us and he said "100% & come on in right now!" They adjusted the steering head and seems to be perfect. Adjusted the clutch and operation smooth as silk. Just the clutch, didn't get all the clunk out but I'm pleased. Smokey charged me 1/3 as what as selling dealer screwed me with. I told Smokey to mark me down as a new and satisfied customer.
I have not done anything to the bike. I also had the service done at a different dealership and they did not catch anything. The service adviser told me that the dealership were I bought the bike should have caught the problem in their predelivery inspection and the dealership that did the 1000mile sevice should have also caught it. I told him that they didn't and you admitted that they were not installed right so who do you think is responsible. He had no answer. I will call HD Customer before I go in tomorrow.

Good story Charlie. It took me 8 different dealer visit before i even found one that actually wanted to sell me a bike. None seemed intrested in even wanting to talk. I found this odd but i also chalked it up too everyday a bunch of people come and look and dream so maybe it is hard to tell a buyer from a dreamer. But you would always think that the service side will do you right so you keep coming back to them.
I've never had a single issue with my bike where even the Extended 5yr warranty would have kicked in. So I am glad I didn't get it.
But for those who did or the ones that still has part of the ORG 2yr I've never heard that U can't go to any HD dealer U want to, to get warranty work done.
I've read quite a few member in here that got fed up with the selling dealer that can't/wont fix issues and then go find another dealer that will take care of the problems.
I know my Chevy truck,(I buy a new one every Yr) from a salesman friend that 150 miles away, but the few times I've needed warranty work done I go to our local GMC dealer to get it fixed.
They haven't even batted an eye or ask any questions, they just do it and have for yrs.

Well got some good news. I called Harley Customer Service yesterday morning. I explained my situation and she put me on hold for about five minutes. She came back and said that it has been taken care of and my bike will be repaired at no cost to me. She had call the dealership and taken care of everything. I just got a call from the dealership and they said my bike has been repaired and ready to be picked up. New rotar and brake pads.
It seems a shame to have to call HD yourself to get the problem fixed. If there is a question on whether it's covered why don't the dealers make that call? Wouldn't that be part of customer service? Oh wait....that makes sense....never mind.
i love harley and everything it stands for, but ill be honest there is only 1 dealership in indianapolis out of the 3 that i feel like i could go into and they will help me with whatever i need. the other two make it seem like i am botherin them or an inconvenience to them bc im asking questions. its really annoying since most of the riders around here only have a certain amount of riding time a year so their customer base is somewhat limited, why wouldnt you want to keep your customers happy?
