Default Stage 1 ungrade.

Got a 2010 Heritage Classic. The bike has new pipes but the original breather.
What is the best and cheapest way to upgrade it. Does it just need to new breather and to be Dyno'd? Which is the best breather to buy??

SE Stage I A/C is adequate. A sophisticated fuel management system and dyno tune for a Stage I upgrade is overkill and money wasted. Check out the Dobeck Techlulsion Gen 3.5 or Gen 4 TFI. DIY install, DIY tuning and sill handle a mild cam as well.

If you outgrow it with future performance upgrades like longer cams, higher compression and/or ported heads, you can sell it on Ebay and go with something more sophisticated.

OK, pretend that I'm not familiar with an SE Stage I A/C and that I am a newby. (Since I'm not and am). Maybe explain exactly what this does or maybe find a thread that does. I have been searching but can only find dated results.

Depends how attached you are to the original air cleaner cover. K&N makes some cleanable filters that fit right into the stock cleaner. That would be the cheapest, not only the initial purchase but also what you save by cleaning and reoiling yourself.

Whether it needs to be tuned has been debated over and over. I'm of the mindset that even a stock bike will do well/better with a professional tune. But, for the cash involved you're spending quite a bit for very very little gain.

If you go that route the hardest part will be finding someone that knows their way around tuning these bikes.

The original air cleaner an intake system are restrictive. Changing just the filter is a very small improvement. You should change the intake backing plate with the Stage One plate, then install the filter of your choice. At this point a dyno tune if over kill but one to the many fine EFI tuner add on or replacement is in order. My standard recommendation is the contact FuelMoto.com and but what they suggest.

This is a common mod.........not as expensive as others, assuming your not going to do any engine mods. I also have a K&N filter that I clean myself.......you can buy the cleaning kit any Harley dealer. Some folks just use soapy water and WD-40 as the oil.

As people have said, change out the air cleaner. There are alot to choose from. The SE unit works. You should at the very least take it to a dealer and have the stage one download done. If you don't plan on other mods, that should be enough as far as tuning.

The Stage I download is compatible with OEM exhaust and A/C, not aftermarket. The download, IMHO, is worthless as it slightly modifies fuel, increases rev limit and, IIRC, tweaks timing a tad. Much better off to spend another $100 and run the TFI.

Not currently running a TFI. Outgrew the Gen 2 a long time ago. Both bikes have built engines with longer cams, higher compression, ported heads, etc. and require timing adjustments which the TFI can't do but are not necessary on a Stage I build, even with mild cams.

The Gen 4 looks to be a neat little piece of hardware. Let us know how you get on with it. There hasn't been any talk about the TFI on this forum for a long while. Everyone had got it in there heads that they have to spend $800 for a tuning system and $300 for a dyno tune on a Stage I build. I don't get it.
