I haven't read much on the reliability of Harley Davidson motorcycles.
There is a bunch of info out there on automobiles but nothing on bikes, at least that I can find.Are these bike problematic or not??

I have had a Sportster Iron 883 since July of 2009.
bought new
Issues:
Speedo malfunctioned at around 5,000 miles. Was replaced under warranty
Battery terminal rotted off the battery at around 10,000 miles. Replaced under warranty
That's been it. I now have 25,000 miles on the bike and nothing else has happened.
Keep in mind that the sportsters do not have the same engine as the larger bikes, though.

I've owned 3 for about 125K miles and the only problem I have ever had was a loose battery cable on a Wide Glide. I am sure they have built a lemon or two, but generally they are quite reliable. Several of my friends ride and none of them have had any issues beyond fair wear and tear. Like everything, you have to take care of them and do the scheduled maintenance if you want them to last.
