Default Tear down 97 FLSTF engine.

Good morning.

I shall use this winter to upgrade my 97 EVO engine, it have 50K on the clock. In that matter I ask humble for advice.

1. I Shall replace my pistons to Hi-Performance WISECO K1675 forged pistons. Any thoughts..?.

2. I need a complete engine gasket set...What brand do you recommend..?

3. What do you think of my stock starter 1.4kw...It is enough or should I go for 1.7kw or higher..?

Any other thoughts about this job I would appreciate.

Thank you.

Post your question here in the engine tech forum: https://www.hdforums.com/forum/engin...ke-exhaust-57/
You'll get solid input from the professionals and experienced DIY'ers that hang out in there. With that being said, Wiseco forged pistons are one of the best pistons you can buy, Cometic is considered the top gasket and as far as replacing the starter, it depends on your cold cranking pressure (CCP). CCP wil be determined by the piston and the extent of any headwork that you have done. I would install compression releases in the heads if your CCP goes over 180 psi. There are calculators at BigBoyz you can use to determine ccp and other variables .Using compression releases will allow you to keep your current starter. The compression releases are much cheaper than a new starter and can be installed when you have headwork done, and I would have headwork done when installing new pistons.

Here is my 2 cents (about what its worth). I have a 98 Fatboy with about 40k. I would replace your cam and bearings (if you haven't already) and new Harley lifters. Put the Hayden oil fix in and new base gasket and have the jugs bored with new pistons. Honestly unless you are going with big compression you don't need high dollar pistons and compression releases (Harley will work just fine). A good cam and two into one pipe will do ya wonders. Good luck.
