I would go with the v&h 2 into 1 full system rather than the short shots. The short shots will give you the least increase in performance (higher top speed, less torque) while the 2 into 1 the most(more torque). I would say your estimate is low. The dealer will quote you some rough numbers price wise that sound good but when you get it into the shop they will add all kinds of things to the bill, o2 Sensor Plug Kit, gaskets etc. etc., I even had a charge for "shop supplies" on one bill. Ask for a detailed estimate in writing including tax and make them stick to it.
If you put a full system on you will have to have a tuner for the bike. the download they talk about sucks. Even the dealer will recommend against the download (preprogrammed map).
Slip on's will add a good 5hp to the bike for about $300, a good deal IMO.
If you add a tuner, breather and full system you will get an extra 5hp for a total of 10 maybe for well over $1200, a bad deal IMO.
It isn't worth the extra money for the tuner, breather, full system.
If you really want more oomph you need to change the cams.
The extra power is nice but you will have to spend several thousand dollars all said and done for about 20 hp. And it will cost you more to run your bike as the gas mileage will decrease.
The average speed limit in the US is about 40mph.
Your bike can go 0-40 in about 5 seconds now, with the upgrade you can do it in 3. That's a lot of money for 2 seconds.

I'm going to try and get rush or VH short-pipes, a basic air cleaner and a map download.
That's pretty much what I did soon after I picked up the saddlebags, windshield, sissybar, and rack. I didn't want something crazy loud but wanted something black, so I went with VH. I also liked the black air filter cover and the eagle. It may have been a cheaper route though it also sort of upset one of my friends after someone told him our bikes sounded alike. His bike had a full exhaust system put on.
slip-ons give the same power as full exhaust? what about these terrible cats everyone says need removing from 2011+ models? Will I not need a tune after removing these?
ok so... will the dealer just install the full exhaust and pop in a high-flow air filter (not the air kit) without doing any tune? no computer flash, no race-tuner?
again... any guesstimates on labor for the exhaust?
Slip on's won't give you as much as a full exhaust but the bike can compensate for them without any other modifications. Just put them on and ride.
If you get a full exhaust system you HAVE TO replace the breather and get a tuner or the bike won't run right.
It's my understanding that some models have the "cats" in the head and some have them in the slip-on mufflers. The "cats" on my 2010 were in the slip-on mufflers. Hence, when the stock slip-ons were replaced with V&H slip-ons, the "cats" were removed at the same time. After having those removed and the Screaming Eagle air system installed, the bike was remapped; however, my bike did not have to be dyno'd though they would have dyno'd it or at least wanted to if I had full pipes put on it.
I suggest that you just have the dealer provide you with a quote. After all, it should just be a quote and not a committment to purchase anything. I just did that with two different sets of bars and wires just to compare the two. After all, it doesn't really matter what anyone guesstimates here unless they are the ones actually going to do the work.

What would be the point of Dyno' ing the bike without a tuner? From what I understand you put slip on's and a new breather on your bike. And then they downloaded the "get it in the ballpark" map to you bike? How does it run with this setup? Does the breather really do anything performance wise without a tuner?
