Which HF air filter
Some say you need it, some say only if you add an exhaust with a air cleaner.
I think you would need the download because all the new bikes already run a very lean gas mixture. If you let more air in the motor with a more efficient filter, you are going to make it suck in more air than normal and make it run even leaner which could definitely cause engine damage.

I think you would need Harley to do a simple ECM Stage 1 download about $100.

Yeap: Installed this on my 08 fatboy. Works great. I did modify the filter slightly to bring in the filter cover a few more millimeters. Every bit helps. Like the Jester750 said, the 3910 gives more airflow but will push out the cover further into your knee.
If you want the stock look with the stock air filter cover but with the aftermarket performance, I went with the K&N RK 3909-1. It has a new baseplate, a bigger air filter and fits under the stock cover. Very easy to install.
If you go for the RK 3910 it is a bit wider and it will stick out more and might interfere with your right knee.
