Blowin black smoke
So... the other day I fired up my bike for the first time in a few weeks. It started fine, sounded fine but after letting it idol for 45 seconds or so, I gave the throttle a few twists and noticed black smoke being pushed out the exhaust.
Nothing comes out of it when it just idols, only when it revs higher. I don't notice anything when it heats up either.
The temperature outside was quite cool. About 4°C (39°F) and like I said it hadn't been ridden in 3 weeks.
Is this something I should be concerned about? Burning oil? Carbon build up?
Anything I can remedy myself?
I have a 2008 FXSTC, D&D Fat Cat with PC 3 with a Fuel Moto map - not dyno tuned.
Thanks,
Ryan
probably , your bike just flooded a little on the cold start..
then when you revved it , it cleared..
no big deal, if it blows black smoke on every cold start , then maybe retune your fuel map
Then when it warms up it will self adjust to run leaner and get better gas mileage.
It takes the place of the old carburator way of pulling out the choke button.
So don't worry about a little black smoke on the start-up, its meant to run rich.
Blue smoke is oil....
After 45sexs in cold weather,, ur FI hasn't adjusted it for warn running YET.
Really U should'nt be twisting the throttle after such a short time. READ the freaking manual... She's not warned up YET..
