I've seen designs cut into fatboy rims before, some I liked some i didn't depends on the design I guess. If you like it go for it.
Are you going to have them polished or chromed?
As long as they keep the cut-outs spaced evenly and equi-distance from the center of the wheel to keep it balanced, you should be OK. Tha's assuming you don't remove too much material to weaken the integrity of the wheel.
This is a very popular machined design with the fatboy wheels that have "bullet holes" (newer models). The older models give you more area to work with, specially with what you have in mind.
keeping the rim balanced will be the issue. The layout will have to be perfect and amount of material removed will need to be the same amount from each hole and the same distance from the center.
Cost may be more than U think to have 1-of-a-kind special machining done with the chroming after its all done. As above said might just check on line to see if anyone has wheels U like made already machined.
Both true above, but done professionally the wheels will be balanced, all those companies use CAD-CAM equipment. I wouldn't trust a guy doing that to any wheel "manually"...
Roaddog Rhody, Sounds like a cool idea but please be VERY careful with this! The Fat Boy wheels are cast as I'm sure you know and can be very brittle and delicate. If you have seen motorcycle wheels in testing before, I am sure you know how scary it can be when a wheel is simulated to have braking pressure. The wheel actually will twist a great deal and this type of pressure was never intended to be placed on a spoke wheel that is cast the way those Fat Boy solid wheels are cast. They can easily break if you cut out too much and people that have tried this before HAVE had wheels break.
Wish you all the best in your venture and if you decide to buy Forged wheels instead... look us up sometime!
