On a Harley, I think the hardest thing to determine on normal maintenance is how tight to turn the spark plugs. The oil change holes all have o-rings on them that should be replaced (HD says everytime) on occasion and snugging them up is usually obvious in the 'feel'. If you have only worked on cast iron stuff before, it's easy to over do it on aluminum threads such as the spark plugs. It's also easy to under to it on the axle bolts.

I think it is really dependent upon your experience level.
