Those floor boards look like they would be fun to keep your feet planted during riding.
No grip surface would have you having to re-adjust your feet during the trip.
Look great on a show bike though.

Actually regarding the floorboards, I have been looking to change them because the fabrication shop says even they are going to have trouble making a sidestand with the current Deep Cut floorboards.

Covington now makes floorboards that are just as long but 3/4" less wide, and they would match my Covington brake pedal. Thinking about these, but need to ask the fabrication shop if they would work better.

I just installed the Ness retro boards and they are perfect. A much more astheticaly pleasing shape than the covingtons and my stock deluxe sidestand worked great after I bent the kicker a bit with a deadblow mallet. I have a mix of Ness and covington finned stuff but why would you want something that looked like a shoe sole? Just saying...its more of a bobber style piece and you have more of a contemporary retro homage thing going IMO

I was trying to find a picture of someone who had posted up previously with the black ones. It definitely added to the retro theme, I thought. They would replace the Upper Fork Slider covers (cow bells etc).

This and the floorboards are still mods I've yet to decide on. I'm leaning towards the chrome OEM cow bells for mine. I'm trying to keep a retro type theme, but I'm still not sure yet if I'm going to go with strictly retro or candy paint and a mix of modern/retro. If going with a strictly retro theme, I think the ones you posted would obviously be perfect. Wish I could have one style of each!! LOL I'm sure you seen the couple post of the Deluxes with the retro paint themes and the one with brown leather etc, it was beautiful!

The Covington boards you posted I think look really sweet and I'll have to add them to my short list...lol I'm not so sure I'd be overly concerned about the lack of grip material. I'm constantly moving my feet around as it is and just installed the Harley Goodies floorboard extensions to get my feet out away from the pipes and give me more room to move around to work out the cramps and all on rides.

Great point Motown...the Ness retro's are one of my favorites and may end up being what I go with when I get to that point.

I would be another No Vote on the Chrome Retro Boot looking things.....They detract from you bike with added Bling you don't need.

Maybe some Drag Specialties 2 over Lower Fork Cow Bells/ Fork Sliders...Adding a little un noticeable detail.

That big Freight Train Nacelle is the focal point of the bike from the front.

This is a mod I will be getting done this winter to my FB.

I would suggest riding a '04 or later Road King and see what you think of the stock bars. They are about equivalent to an 8" rise I believe.

Check out the article on ergonomics in the January issue (I think it was... if not, it was the December issue) of American Iron.

103's run hotter than stock. If you don't like the heat now, then you really won't like it after you upsize the cylinders. You can use an oil cooler to help that somewhat.

OK I sat on 3 bikes tonight. A softail with beach bars, a stock road king, and a heritage with stock mini apes.

I don't think there is any way I could get used to the beach bars. It just did not feel right, and they are really wide for me. I know their height can be adjusted but it just didn't feel good.

I didn't care for the road king bars look.

The bars on the heritage felt just right. Higher than my stock bars, wasn't reaching, no pressure on my wrists, felt natural and comfortable on my arms.

I know there are many factors that will go into what feels best (seat, height, pull-back, etc.) but the mini apes felt the best.

I'm not in a hurry, so we'll see what happens.

In the meantime, I think I am going to switch to the Sinister Gnarly footboards with matching saddlebag latches. They are smaller in length and width than the huge Ness boards I currently have that have caused so many kickstand problems.

I love them on this bike (would love to have this bike too!)
