Great info here. I will be getting a set of Iron Bags in the next couple of months.

I still have the stock SE seat and chrome trim on my bike, so I opted to order mine for the normal mounting position,fwd/aft,, similar to the Heritage, so I could leave the trim on.
With your new seat I would think you could order your bags, so they mount forward enough, to clear your rear blinkers, like sonar_chris' setup on this post. This would keep you from having to relocate the rear signals. If you call Iron Bags, Max will know what position will work.
You will also need a lower positioned exhaust system than the stock setup for the saddle bag clearance. I could not tell what type exhaust you have from your picture.
You can click on my photo album and see different views of the Thunder Bags on my Fat Boy SE. That piece of cable hanging off my right side bag is what I use to lock my helmet onto the sissy bar. I store it there to keep the lock from hitting my paint. I forgot to take it off when I took the pictures.

I have the detachable sissy bar and the 2 aft bolts that incorporate the spacers for the sissy bar were allen head the next one forward (3rd bolt) still had the stock torx head. Make sure you use a quality wrench taking the bolts out of the fender strut. They should be loctited in place and a cheap wrench will give you a lot more grief. On my setup I had a flat strip with a barrel nut plate that fit into each of the fender holes. I forced my fingers between the tire and the fender so I could keep the nut plate from falling out, as I replaced one stud at a time. It was actually a very easy install.

Thanks!
Yeah the more I get to walk by the bike gathering dust in the basement to GO TO WORK [:'(], I like the bags more and more each day... Haven't even seen 'em in the sun yet. 70 stinkin' degrees here and my bike's down until I get the lights and license plate done... dadgummit!! No time to finish what I started. The holidays with inlaws in town.. gotta love the tranquility and peaceful coexistence and synergy. [sm=bicker.gif] Pop put it pretty simple.. "yep, she blocked your advances.. now she's blocked your retreat". .. gee thanks pop.. now ya tell me. hehehe

Status report if yer bored on this fine Thursday.

So I got the crimp for the pin connectors at JP.. If you do any electrical stuff it's worth the money.. By the way, low and behold I'm surfing through the service manual which has an entire section devoted to the connectors. Amazing what you learn when you actually crack open the service manual and just cruise. It also has part numbers for the pin crimps as well.. If the parts guy had half a noggin, he would have known this.. Man the k-mart clerks they have over parts at my dealer.. worthless.

So I have the hole in the fender drilled.. that was exciting. [sm=icon_guiness.gif]Had to get a few in me to round up the nerve. hehe. Remember masking tape and I covered up the tire with plastic and the taillight mount as well. Broke out the dremmel to clean it up and bevel the edges nicely.. Now I'm letting the rustoleum touch up paint cure. That stuff takes forever! Or I'd be done already. A supplied grommet goes in then it's time to finish.

The lights are mounted to the license plate bracket. Nice piece from bubbasbrake.com Ordered the trim frame also.. billet.. looks good, I think.. Different, oval shape. The stock bullets..... EL CHEAPO! But they'll get me through until I pick up something nicer.

Any suggestions on brands.. I like the Adjures I think. The Kuryakyns with the setscrew on the bezel doesn't do anything for me.

Looks like signals mount up with either a 5/16-18 or 24 (fine thread).. That 24 in a cap head allen screw is dang difficult to find.

Babs,
I was just told by a friend, that was following me on a ride, that my new mini LED rear signals are hard to see. It is the combination of them being so small and having the bags and my lay down tag surrounding them. I was thinking of checking out the signal mounting bracket that bolts to a lay down tag mount. They have one in the J&P cycles cat. I will wait until I see your setup before I commit to something.
I also sent cool dog a PM asking how his rear signals are mounted.

That was my fear with those lights.. Just not enough footprint of lighting there. Also, if you're looking at any angle other than straight on, the license plate can obscure the one farthest from the person looking... solution.. Drag has a curved radius license plate mount by Hotop Designs that hugs the fender flush...
http://www.dragspecialties.com/fatbo...dius%20license

... So that would at least prevent the little bullets from being obscured from vision.

What JP part are you referring? Mine is the only one I've seen that's part of the bracket itself besides the one with the bar that goes all the way through the bracket.. Which I don't recommend.. JP has it and so does HD and I read a post somewhere where the bar actually broke.

There is the cycle visions "little lite brackets" which would be an inexpensive solution. With those, you're just on your own for getting the wiring down into the taillight.. probably drill into each side of the license mount and through the fender like I did, but you'd need a grommet and you have holes through the chrome to seal up.. For the hassle, I'd just recommend Bubba's kit.. You don't have to use the faceplate, but I chose to as it was designed for the mount. The bottom license bolt holes are longer than usual due to the light mount thickness. It's a nice design. Check out the pics on their site, that's up now.. Scroll down on the item page. Ken at Bubba's is great help too. From seeing and working with Bubba's bracket, I highly highly recommend it.. I can't wait to get it out in the sun and get some good picks once I get it wired up..

My problem has been working with these crap-cheap-as$ OEM rear bullets and the plastic piece that's supposed to cover up the big hole where the original wing mounts are.

I actually got a hold of a couple front signals that just have the flush-mount holes, but they're some weird thread.. I guess they're 5/16 - 24 (fine thread) so they wouldn't work with the caphead screws provided by Bubba's.. Haven't even been able to find a 24 thread in that type of screw.. So I've got a used set of fronts if anyone needs em.. though I'd just pick up a new set of aftermarkets.. I'll probably chunk 'em or scrap for parts for the inside bezels or something. Svc guy gave me these from take-offs.

So I drilled a hole in the plastic covers behind the mount (non-hollow-bolt) and looks like they'll work ok until I upgrade.

Sorry you're not getting adequate light with those strut bullets. I wish they worked with the panacea setup.. That would at least help with some signal lighting. Kur Tech Support told me they wouldn't work and of course that they're NOT DOT approved.

Could always do the Aurora kit..
http://www.jpcycles.com/productdetai...;search=aurora

They dropped the price.. I'll bet it's discontinued.. No surprise.. Awesome Concept but Fugly signals for a Harley.. Honda yes, but NOT on a hog.

Also, there's the lightbar option:

But on your bike with that awesome SE paintjob.. I wouldn't alter it unless there was no other choice..(can you imagine taking a drill to your fender in open space below your lights.. yikes)

I know I'm writting a bunch o

Oh.. Joe at Adjure Inc (Great guy for sure.. It's good that he has awesome lights because he's the type of guy I do business with).. But anyway, he also pointed me to this little item by Billet Boys.. NICE lightbar, with choices of lights, Vizor, Adjure maybe or Kuryakyns or without to go with some light I guess. I'd go with the Adjures.. much cleaner. Goooooood lookin' light bar... Still have to drill though for a fatboy fender.
