Ironbags Install on a Fatboy
I couldn't find the part I was talking about, in the J&P catalog.I must of seen it on another site. As I recall, it is a chrome plate that fits behind your lay down license plate mount. It has a 90 degree bend in the forward direction, at each side, with holes to mount turn signals on. I will start a search of INTERNET sites,to see if I can find it.
I tend to use hand signals when I am slowing down to turn, so it isn't that critical that I get new signals mounted immediately.
I will have my wife follow me around and see what she thinks as far as these mini signals being noticeable.
Thebest way would be to have someone else ride my bike and I could follow to see what I think, but I don't like the idea of someone ,other than me, riding it.

Ifound the rear signal license plate mountI was thinking of. It appears that I would not be able to use my stock bullet lights. They recommend the mini lights. It was in the J&P cat. #382-472

Here's an alternative.. Cycle Visions product "Little Lite Brackets". $30
I seriously thought of going this route and modifying (drilling) my current CCI plate bracket.

Thanks Anubisss.. Yeah they're huge.. getting to the bottom mounting bolt on the inside, my arm was up to my shoulder down in there..
I'm fairly sure I might have to retire the sissybar bag. Anyone want it.. leather $100 bag.. one strap broken.. $40+shipping and it's yours.

That looks like the best setup yet.You would think there would be similar brackets at Home Depot or some place like it.

Tested fine.. Looks awesome! Got too late to snap off any pics. So now the lic. plate lays down closer to the fender at the same angle and the lights are at the same height from the ground, just back further, above but a little forward of the taillight. I didn't have to splice.. I had just enough wire length.. I just crimped new pins and popped in the connectors.
And yep the signals sure enough work.
Believe it or not. heheThe finished product of the lights with the bags, looks great.. I'll get pics up as soon as I can in some sunlight. Given the work that was involved and the cost, I say it is THE option.. It's quite clean.. I see about 1 inch of signal wire from the bullet going under the plate.. However if you wanted, you could effectively route the wire through a hollow bolt and stem and see absolutely no wires. A hole is already provided for routing that way as well.
$120 + $50 plus a little rustoleum in the can for the 1/2" hole and a set of signals and you're set.

Also, a couple more shots of the Max's.. I hit 'em with some of the provided kiwi and grease last night.. Man the pics don't do them justice.. If you prefer not to have that rear bracket under the fender, the Thunders or possibly the Freedom bags would be the alternatives. I say good choice for the Max's though for maximum storage.

I was thinking, if Iattached the cyclevision or similar, brackets to the bottom holes, of the forward side, of the license plate mount. The wires would be hidden and I could feed them down the outside of the fender into the brake light assy.
This would keep me from having to drill a hole in the fender. I could use a rat tail file to get enough room to allow the brake light lens to nest properly without pinching the wires. Then I would put a dab of silicon sealer where the wires enter, to keep the lens waterproof. There is no space between my laydown plate and my brake light, so the wires would be completely hidden.
Although the method you used is the correct way to route the wires, do you see anything wrong with my planned install?
