I had the #65980-97 mufflers on my '05 springer classic. This is the early 'se' pipes before 'se-II' came out. I believe the early ones are less restrictive. I have noticed on the forum that some owners have changed their dual exhaust to 'true duals' systems and also some springer classic owners have changed their pipes to 'right side' only systems. Check springer pics. You may want to ask if anyone wants to sell their stock crossover header system. You will need crossover system, exhaust brackets and heat shields. They make true dual systems aftermarket for the deluxe, but these are some big bucks. I bought my -97 mufflers on e-bay (new in the box) for a real good price. I see them and the end caps available fairly often. I hope this was of some help to you. I have since changed over to v&h fishtails and they are getting louder as all pipes do. If you wish to PM me, please feel free. Good Luck.
yeah, I been looking for the front cross over pipe, finially ordered one today from Chicago. Dealer service man here today told me like you said that the aftermarket pipes from harley used to have the screaming eagle on them. he said I wouldnt want them because they are quiet. I wish I knew what they did sound like, I really dont like a lot of noise, have own now a set of Samson straight fishtails with baffles, they sound good but I wish they wernt so loud. What is your discription on how the harley pipes sound????? If they were just mabie a litlle more thatn stock, that would be ok to me., Dealer service man recomended the Vance an Hines slip on mufflers, but I just wish I knew how quiet/loud they are. [8D]
I have the 65980-97s on my 05 springer classic. A little louder than stock is exactly what they are. Idling they are quiet, but when you give it, they roar. I had a guy behind me in a car pull up and ask me what they were because he loved the sound. I wish they were a bit louder but I think they will get that way with age.

So - du you have the true dual crossover on your bike with V&H slipons?
I have not been able to find any true dual crossover headers for my 05 Springer.
Sasmon has a set, but it does not go with stock mufflers. (I changed my stock mufflers with V&H fishtail slipons)
