Good morning! My 08 Rocker has had 3 rear tires and they have all run perfect, BUT starting in 08 they started putting some bearings in that came from China and they have been failing in high numbers. My first rear bearing failed at 6 thousand miles, the second at 7 thousand miles. The second time it failed was at 65 mph and did $1200.00 damage and almost got me killed. I had new Timken bearing put in front and back. I would check and or just replace both bearings and do not use the HD ones!!!! Use Timken or All ***** bearings. I wonder if the bearing is failing on one side and your wheel is tipped to one side. When they found the first failed bearing, it was only because they were putting a new tire on. Check them carefully (pull wheel). Ride safe.
Oh I forgot, I run the rear at 38 pounds for the Metzler. Just changing over to a new rear tire and going to try a VeeRubber 260/35 R18. Not mounted yet, but looks good so far. It is a hair lower (35 vs 40). Rocker is a great bike!! Crazy they stopped making them.
I ask coz when I changed my wheel and went to a wider tyre I was advised to change to a regular softail 25mm belt & pulley to allow the wheel to be centered properly.
I remeber measuring some tyres back then and the avon 250 was actually wider than the metz 260 I run
I know most will say they have no issues but this is just something that came to mind when I read your post
a bearing would seem to make sense, also check that the wheel is in a straightline.. a tire pointed to the left could possibly wear out the right side cuz its dog tracking.. the center of the tire would have a chopping/sawtooth/wave like wear pattern also..
\ = right side wear, / = left side wear...
or maybe ya gotta stop doing all right angled donuts in the bar lots..
Tire pressure is critical for proper tire wear. I use 38lbs front and rear works for me
It's all about tire pressure, I run around 42psi in the back and 38-40 in the front. No probs with the wear, proper wheel balancing is the key too. I had to replace the stock rear bearings last year, you can tell when they are starting to go. You will feel the wobble are the uneven rocking motion, dont take a chance.........replace then ASAP!
