I'm looking at the LA Choppers cables in stainless. FOr those that have LA Chopper cables, what's your thought on 'em? Are they a decent quality? I'm trying to stay within a budget when it comes to cables since I'm already in for about $600 on the bars and risers. Thoughts?
I am also waitng, watching and learning so I am glad you posted this thread and I am also going to follow it for the answer's I am looking for. I want the Carlini 16's myself. I think they just look BAD ***! It's the cable and wiring that has me waiting to pull the trigger. I will say this, I have the steel braided lines on my bike now and I love them. I am not rich but when I do something on the bike I figure why not try to get the best and be done with it. I have tried the "budget" thing before and I found out it usually ended up costing more money when the "budget" crap I bought didn't work, broke, didn't last or hold up under rider conditions. I have already picked up on and learned to get solid bushing's. I am not sure I would have thought of that until it was to late and I had to take stuff back apart to redo or fix. This is the BEST place for information because it is by riders for riders with experiance. It seems like no one here has anything to gain by promoting one paticular product over another. We get to learn from those who have gone before us and who have learned the hard way themselves.
Ok...sorry for the back and forth but I think I've finally made a decision on cables. I'm going with Deluxeguy's suggestion of Magnum cables. +10 on clutch, throttle and idle cables.
Now for my dumb question. Which brake line do I need? Below are the brake line options from the Magnum site.
(1) Designer Lower Brake Assembly for 2005 FLSTF(I) Fat Boy
(2) Designer Upper Brake Assembly for 2005 FLSTF(I) Fat Boy
(3) E-Z Align Single Disc Front Brake for 2005 FLSTF(I) Fat Boy
(4) Swivel Fit Front Brake for 2005 FLSTF(I) Fat Boy
Sorry for my ignorance on this but I'm just not sure which one is the right one.
Bars, risers and service manual will be here this Friday.
Called Dr. V-Twin today and ordered my cables and wire extensions. Should be in the mail today/tomorrow. I went with the Magnum Sterling Chromite cables. Total was $349 shipped for the cables and wires. Does this sound about right?
Either way, should have everything (except new gasket) sometime next week.
Hey Kennygsuperglide, what bars are those? Are those RSD chrome King Apes in 16"? I'm thinking about getting the same bars for my Deuce and am thinking about the Burly cable kit as well. How easy was the install with that kit? What height risers do you have and did you have any slack with the brake/clutch cable or was it a pretty good fit? I'm thinking I need to stay with 2" or less risers with the 16" apes for the Burly kit to fit, but not sure...
Any reason why you went +106 on your cables? I have s 2011 Heritage Classic and just got my 16"apes rad style. Measured with the wire method and came between +6 and +8. Still not sure if the +8 would be sloppy or not. Did someone measure you up? Any info would be great.
You might want to check www.directharleyparts.com . I ordered the whole package to put apes on my Roadking last week and the fed ex man tried to deliver then today. I don't think they have the Carlinis, not sure, but they will have everything else you need. And my experience was that no one else came close on the price. If it isn't listed in the site, give them a call, that's what I did.

+ 10 was just a guesstimate on my part. I ended up just calling Dr. V-Twin and telling them what bike I have and what bars and risers I was putting on and he did the rest. He said I would need + 12, I'm a little worried about them being too sloppy I'll just wait and see. Have heard nothing but good things about Dr. V-Twin so I'm decided to trust em on that one.
