Default Ordering Ape Hangers

What's up...been ghosting on this site for the past six months and have picked up some great information here. Never really had a reason to post but now I have a few questions for the experts out there. I'm sure these questions have probably been asked a few hundred times but...

I have a 05 Fatboy and I am ordering the 16" Carlini Flying apes 1.5" today along with the 2 tone high roller risers. I'm looking for you input on what cable/brake line kit and wiring extensions I should get. I've been looking at the 15"-17" LA Choppers black cable/brake kit and the NAMZ wiring extensions. Are these good or what would you recommend? How much wire extension should I need for 16" (17.5") carlini's? Am I missing / overlooking anything?

Any help on this will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Magnum makes really nice cables, in fact mine are supposed to be delivered tomorrow. The the high roller risers come with new bushings? If not you are going to want new hard bushings to replace your rubber ones. Makes it more solid which you will definitely need with apes. I used the Namz extensions and I ordered 15" extensions although I only needed 4" but with the extra length, was able to stagger the splices which makes it much easier to pull the wires through the bars. Cant think of anything else you need other than patience.

Thanks for the reply. Do the magnum cables come in a kit or do I order each cable seperately. Would that require me to know the required length of each cable? I think I'd rather stick to some sort of kit as I'm not sure exactly what the lenghts I need are.

Anyone have any experience with the Burly 16" installation kit? It looks like it comes with everything including 13" wire extensions, shrink tubing and all the required cables. Wondering if these would work.

I'm really looking for items to make this go as easy as possible. This is the biggest mod I've taken on so far and want to make sure it goes smooth.

Magnums you have to order seperately. Give this thread a day or so and someone who has done 16" apes will chime in and give you the cable lengths. In my opinion, its silly to go back with "stock" quality cables. This is the perfect time to upgrade to a nice cable. You will feel the difference in smoothness and even braking power. My cables for the beach bars were +2. You will probably be more like +6. But like I said, wait on this thread, and someone who has done the exact mod will hook you up with the info. Or you can call Shawn or Al over at DrV-twin and they will probably have that info in their database. Good people over there. You can find their info in the sponsors section on this site. Good luck bro

Thanks man! I'll take that into consideration, didn't really realize that the LA Choppers of Burly kits were basically just stock cables. Like you said, I'll give this thread a little while and see what comes from it.

I'm also wondering about steel braided lines and their potential for rusting. I live in Washington state which umm...tends to rain once in a while. I do ride the bike in most conditions, except snow and ice, and am wondering if I would have any problems with the steel braided lines rusting. I'm thinking it will be less of a headache in the long run if I just stick with the stock looking cables.

Any thoughts?

The braided lines of today are coated with plastic. They also come in Black so either way, black or silver, they wont rust on ya. I just happen to be off work today, but most of the softy guys have a job during the day. You will get lots of answers tonight id think. Little bit of patience goes a long way. BTW, I have little to no patience. Big problem when waiting for parts to arrive.

Lol...I really don't have much patience either. Just been looking all over the net at various things and keep coming up with questions here and there. I did just order my service manual so that should at least make the install go a bit easier. Thanks for your help.

The burly kit is exactly what you need.I personaly have used them on 16 inch bars. They are of fair quality and price. They will work great for you.
