Default No transmission lubricant???

I'm on the finishing touches of putting 16" apehangers on my 06 FXSTI. I was installing my new clutchcable a little bit ago, and when I pulled the dipstick first thing, there was only a little drop on the end of the stick. So i took out the drain plug, and only got a few dribbles, even with the bike upright. Now I have only had this bike a couple months. Bought it new off the floor. and only been able to put about 400 miles on it so far. So thats why its suprising to see that there was little to no oil in the transmission.Being a brand new bike, I never checked it yet. Has anyone else experienced this with their new bikes?

Oops, that doesn't sound good.
Maybe you should call the dealer in the morning and ask WHY THE HELL DIDN'T ANYONE CHECK THIS!!!!
There is no way that should have left the dealer without oil in the tranny, that's completely unacceptable.

Unbelievable!! One more reason that everyone should own a service manual and be as intimate with their scoot as their abilities allow!! I just can't allow the dealer to do anything to my bike that I can do myself. It's the ONLY way to ensure it's done right....

One more reason that everyone should own a service manual <snip>
Is there a place one could go to procure a service manual without paying the "stealer" prices?

I agree, this is mind boggling. But it taught me a good lesson...Never assume anything. Just because it was new I assumed it was OK. I usually do all my service and maintenance on my bikes...to my ability. And that will definately not change.

You may be able to find other ones out there, but this is one case where going "cheap" could easily get more expensive.
You can also try http://www.fixmyhog.com/
Not cheap but good stuff never is and they are a site sponser.

As service manuals go $58 is pretty cheap. I paid about $90 for my sea-doo manual. Not to mention you can get it at one of the sale events and save 15 - 20% I guess in reality though it's $116 since there is an electronics manual as well, still not horrible considering the HD mark-up on everything else.

I would be losing my mind.. I'd be having a kniption (or however it's spelled). I'd have kittens![:@]

Makes me think though, there was a little fluid in there.. hmmmmmm
So we're pretty sure they just didn't fill it on delivery prep, and what was in there was from the factory test-run?

400 break-in miles on a dry tranny!!!! The thought is scary.

I'd be all the way up the chain on it.. I'd be wanting a new transmission, but I'd be scared to death to have this guy do it, without me standing there watching them work.

If you detect any shifting issues... throwout bearing shot and the push-rod wore down so not engaging the clutch.. That will strand you and throw shavings in your tranny. That's only one possible resulting problem.

Man if your dealer makes light of this.. You give it to him but GOOD! You go in there with the attitude that your tranny is ruined (though maybe not).. but as far as that dealer knows, you're positive that brand new tranny is all but burned up. That kind of error should never EVER occur.

I hope this works out for you without a hitch and sorry to hear about it.
Dang, It makes me want to check all my fluids and I did my own 5k service.
