has anyone ever checked the shift rod end joints ? are they the original pop on style ? too much play in the shift linkage can definitely cause ya problems.

I just filled it with HDs Formula+. Im sure there are better solutions out there, but I figure it was designed specifically for this, so it should be good enough to troubleshoot the problem

While HD oil is sufficient, may I suggest, Red Line Heavy Shock, you will notice a difference.

fluid kind and level was my problem, i couldn't find neutral and constant clunking and whining,

i can only run the cheap harley brand primary fluid, and overfill it just a little bit,,,,,

anything else, mine shifts like crap.... i tried it all,,,,, and i have a se compensator, se clutch, all new,, and others have had the same issue,, after i overfilled it 1/4 qt, it all went away.... so total i used about 1 1/4 qt.,, no guarantee it will work for you though..
