Default chrome lower deflectors ?

Back again: New aux lights and headlamp are in place on my '08 Fatboy. So is the windshield. I have a question concerning my lower wind deflectors. Looking at Harley's parts list, it looks like the lower deflectors are the same whether or not you have the aux lamp kit. The difference is obviously when mounted they are a significant distance from the fork tubes, 2 inches vs 1/2 inch. Will this large gap negate the usefulness of the deflectors? I really like them as they made a big difference with turbulence near my head, but if they become useless I see no reason to remount them.

Thanks a bunch, Chris.
