Default Windshield and Turn Signal Relocation

I want to install a quick release detachable compact windshield (H-D part# 58779-05) on my '06 Deuce. Will it be necessary to relocate my turn signals or is it optional? Anyone have any experience with this situation? I'd welcome your thoughts and opinions.

If you decide that you want to put the passing lamps on, you may end up having to purchase a new windshield. I have a Standard, and had to purchase a new windshield when I had the passing lamps installed with the turn signal relocation kit.

Before I did all of that, I had a standard size windshield (like your part number) on mine. See the picture below. The turn signal relo is not necessary - I think Harley does that to make more eye candy sales.

I agree w/ tail11, and will add another reason NOT to relo. The turn signals get moved lower and inward (closer to the headlamp). If you pull up behind a pickup truck or van with a flat rear surface, you will notice that the lamps are not as visible as when they were on the bars. When I purchased my '04 used, the turn lamps were on the forks, and because of the poor visibility, I moved them back to the bars. So, don't move them. The only thing you will notice that in the dark, there is a soft yellow glow from the lower portion of the windshield but nothing to be bothersome.

I vote to move them.

It makes the bike look soooo much cleaner.
Plus the quick release windshield comes with the turn signal relocation kit.

Clean, yes, but IMO, less visible to the driver coming toward you. But if they are to be moved, don't cut then splice the wires. Remove the wires from the connector under the front of the tank, re-string the wires, and then reconnect at the connector.

The reason I say this is that when the original owner of my Softail Standard moved them, or had them moved, they just cut the wires which is an open invitation for shorts (and just what I got).

I agree, don't cut them unless you're good with a soldering iron and heat shrink tubing.
it's a hassle to take off the tank but it IS the right way to do the install.

P.S.

I cut and soldered mine........
I used the good heat shrink tubing that has the glue inside.8D]

so what is your decision?

I have the Deuce quick release windshield, I love it.

I only use it when I feel I need it, other than that, I like the way the bike looks without it!

I've decided to mount the windshield without relocating the turn signals at this time. I expect to use the windshield only when cooler temps would make it worthwhile. I purchased the Deuce because of its looks and would like to maintain the basic style appearance. So, when the old geezer gets cold, the screen goes on. I do like the idea of having the relo kit in hand. It may come in handy in the future.

Now the hard part - I won't put the windshield on until Christmas day. That's right, it's a Christmas present (along with a new smooth, round SE air cleaner cover) and I'm old school about not opening presents too early. I'm afraid that if I play with my presents early, Santa may not bring me Jack *hit on Christmas day. Yeah, I'm the biggest kid in the neighborhood. And lovin' every minute of it!
