Now or later?
I haven't chosen a cam yet, I am in NY so who knows what the weather will be like over the next 2 months. I thought about installing a cam and the bringing it to my regular dealer- they have a guy who is a really good tuner/mechanic. Depending on how you can break in a new cam I was going to have him dyno tune my bike before I leave.
Cams don't need broken in, if U do a BB kit then U'd have to break the new pistons in.
If U just do some bolt in cams, Actually with a good tune Ur fuel Mileage should go up. At least on the four bikes that the son and I have done it did, About 2 more MPG on top of what the stg1 and tune already did.
So U really should get 3-4 more MPG better after some pipes, A/C, cams and tune is done.
With a decent cam U should see a 10-20% increase of TQ on Ur dyno sheet and yes it will give U more power to climb hills and pass cars.
What I really like was that the cams gives the motor enough TQ that U will be able to use 6th gear easy at 60 and have plenty of power to pass without downshifting.
Mine now has as much or more power in 6th at 60 than she did pre-cams in 5th gear at 60 to pass and accelerate.
Some cams will make U smile every time U get on her a little bit, not only when passing or going up a hill..
If U do end up doing the cams come back in here and post about Ur experience, Wouldn't surprise me if Ur like most others who say after a cam install, I don't know why I waited so long to do it.
