Default Deuce seat question

hey guys and gals have a question for you.I recently got an 04 Deuce, and I want to put a new seat on it, it has the factory 2up seat on it with the short sissy bar and pad.Ive had other harleys before where you take the rear bolt out and just lift up the seat, I tried to take the bolt out of the deuce and it will unthread but it has a spring on it and doesnt appear to come out, and without it out it wont clear the small sissybar opening and I cant lift the seat up to remove it?,do I have to remove the nuts under the fender and take them both off together, to just remove the seat? any help would be greatly appreciated thanx

I just picked up my 04 last part of Dec. Same set up as yours. I found it is tight to get the rear bolt out but it will and you do not need to remove the sissy bar and pad. The bolt, spring and washer all stay with the rear seat tab. You can then slide the seat back slightly, pull the front out from the tab and then move the seat forward to slip it out from under the seat strap. Be careful or you will scratch the tank with the front hook on the seat. You need to put a lot of pressure on the back of the seat when you reinstall or it will not tighten down properly. Just takes some patience.

@elkhunter719 thanks alot,I figured there had to be someway it would come off without complete removal of the sissybar, Im use to the bolt just coming out. I picked up mine in the first week of Feb, and mines the same color as yours.

I have an '02 Deuce with the same setup. It's actually very easy to just remove the sissybar pad, without removing the sissybar mount. You just remove the 2 Allen head bolts on the rear of the pad and remove the pad. Then you can unscrew the rear seat bolt with the spring on it, and pull the seat right up. I'd rather take an extra minute to remove the pad than risk scratching the rear fender or back of the tank by trying to fiddle the seat out from around it. Just my 2 cents.
