Default Arlen Ness Cracked?!

Looking at installing a Big Sucker intake and I read alot of reviews that state the backplates crack at the breather bolts. Don't want to be a "Sucker"!
Is this a product or possibly installer flaw??

This is most likely an installation error. Many times people do not tighten the throttle body/carburetor bolts equally compared to the head/breather bolts and put extra tension on the backing plate which eventually causes it to crack. Another reason could be the backing plate isn't sitting flush with the throttle body and when you torque the bolts, you either crack the backing plate or you snap the bolts. We have customers who have had a Big Sucker on their bike for tens of thousands of miles without an issue…In any case, Arlen Ness stands behind their products and they offer a 1 year warranty on "accidents" like the one you described, so you have nothing to lose except the oem air intake they give you when you ride off on your bike. Hope this helps!

Like anything, it's installer error. I cracked mine by putting to much torque on it. I shouldn't have rushed. Oh well. I still use it too

Mine is cracked too. (previous owner did it). I am waiting for my new one to arrive from jp cycles. My backing plate was out of stock and on back order. Guess many other have this same problem. I looked at this cracked part and am confident that it is due to inexpierence and over tighting. After a while you get a feel for how tight is tight enough without breaking stuff.
