I had the Wide Glide mini-apes installed today, along with the SS cables/brake line, skull grips and skull clamp, and HOLY CRAP she feels like a new machine!!!! I am completely blown away by the feel of the bike now!! She handles WAAAAAAY better, I am in a much more comfortable and natural riding position, AND the mini-apes absorb almost all the vibration I was getting with the drag bars!!! Not to mention she looks simply amazing, IMHO!!! This is the best mod I've done yet!! I'll have pictures up within the next few days.
Oh yeah, I almost forgot, I had heavier fork oil put in, and thta made a big difference too! The front end doesn't have that heavy clunk over bumps and the forks aren't bottoming out.
Not sure exactly. When i told the service manager the feel I was after, he suggested mixing 2 weights to achieve a little more stiffness, but without sacrificing too much ride quality. I like the way it feels now a LOT! I think they mixed 10w and 15w to get something like 13w... but don't quote me on that!
So when do we get to see the new bars
on the bike? I have never seen a nightrain
with anything other than stock. My arms
are so stinking long i need dragbars.
Glad to hear that you like the looks and feel of your mini-apes, it makes me more certain that I will get some for my Springer. It sounds like your bike is really looking great with all the mods, can't wait to see what it looks like.
You got it right! I always loved the look of apes. I was reluctant to put soem on my XLH, but was sure glad I did. Changed the whole bike. I think some people change other things w/o trying bars. Next bike I plan on going with 16"!!! Ironically Clammy, I was wondering what apes would look like on a NT, always thought it would look cool with how the bike sits.
Have fun!
Good.. I'm looking forward to checking it out as well...
Refresh us... Which bars did you go with?
Were they Wild 1's or H-D or something?
I've got Stock Heritage bars on my Fatty and I'm considering some Chubby's but can't decide on a particular bar.. It's amazing how subtle differences in geometry are dramatic when you're riding. I just pulled mine back at the riser just a little bit and it was a night and day improvement.
