I'm considering buying a Deluxe, Heritage classic or Fatboy. I like the seating position and bar placement on the Fatboy the best. But I like the looks of the Deluxe the most, followed by the Heritage.
So I'm talking to the salesman at the dealership and told him I like the Deluxe the best, but he says I'm too big for it (6'2", 280lbs, 33" inseam). The Heritage would fit me better but I don't like the high bars on the Heritage so I would want to change them out. I understand that all the FL softails have the same frame.
So my questions are:
1. If I get a Deluxe, is it just a matter of changing out the seat to get one that puts me further back and changing out the handlebars so they don't come so close too me? What have other tall people done with a Deluxe?
2. If I go with a Heritage, I would want to change out the bars to something lower, like on the Deluxe or Fatboy. Would I also have to change out the cables and how much does something like that cost? Has anyone changed out the bars on a Heritage for lower bars?
I had the same problem with my deluxe until i changed the seat. I got a Heritage seat off of ebay, and now the bike feels perfect. I tried the Heritage bars and risers , but i like the looks and feel of the Deluxe bars and risers. I don't understand why some people buy a Deluxe then change it to look like a fatboy or Heritage. If you put a Heitage seat on it you'll be happy , the seat moves you up and back.
Thestock handlebars will be fine. If not i'll give you a deal on Heritage bars and risers that are practilly brand new. I'm 6' 250.
I have an '06 Heritage and I've been looking at the Wild 1 504's or 518's http://www.wild1inc.com/. The stock bars are an acceptable fit for my 5'11, 185 lb., 32 in. inseam, but I'm liking the looks of the Wild1's. I also think that these bars fit with the stock cables also.
If anybody has changed for these, I'd like to see some pictures.
I am 6'3" and my wife bought a 06 Deluxe, It doesn't feel the same as my Springer Softail, but could be made to feel great if I was going to get one for me. I would go with the deluxe.
I am 6'2" 34 in inseam, I have a C & C seat with Wildones 504 on my 05 Fatboy. Great bars, super finish on them, internal wiring and the extra thickness makes the "fat" look. They fit with the stock cables and wiring. Much more comfortable than the stock bars.
Not a great picture but it's all I have that will upload to this post.

Scroll down in this thread to HeritageBrian's message, which contains a picture of my 06 Heritage with the 518s. Best mod I've done to the bike, in terms of both looks and comfort:

Thanks for the info. The 504's would probably work for me, I don't necessarily need them back further, just down from the stock height. I will talk to the guys at Wild one before I order to get their opinion on what I should do.
One more question, if I go with the classic I will want to put wide whites on, anyone know of a good place to buy them with good pricing?
