Default Softail rear brake caliper question

Removed the rear caliper on 2012 fatboy to install LRB pads and the two plastic phenolic insulators fell out before I could see which way they go inside the piston. Service manual does not say and with the breakdown picture you cannot tell either. Does anybody know for sure? Thanks.

I just put LRB pads in my '09' Heritage the other day and don't recall seeing any kind of phenolic insulator. Just removed the old pads and put the new ones in. Could be some kind of upgrade though.

No ABS. Surely someone with a 2012 has changed to better brakes! After putting them in the pistons both ways, it looks like they can only go one way. Just want to make sure.

I'm not familiar with the part(s) your talking about I guess. I just installed calipers and new pads can't think of what part would have just fallen out, because nothing was loose in mine, even off the bike.
