Default exhaust upgrade

Planning upgrading exhaust on my 2007 softail deluxe for a little cosmetic, little noise, and to relocate passenger pegs. going with VH Big Radius 2 into 2 and was wondering if I should go with software remap or fuelpak. also do I need free air intake upgrade with this. Harley dealer made it awfull expensive for some looks/noise and comfort adjustment for passenger.

Any oppinions?

My understanding from a lot of posts on this subject here is, if you're doing just pipes and nothing else, you don't need to re-cal the ECM. Just remember though, that your stock set-up is on the lean side. If you increase flow in the top (air) or out the back (exhaust), it will affect engine performance. Installing a free flow air cleaner (more air) will lean it out even more and it will run hotter even if it seems to be running fine. A dealer Stage 1 flash of the ECM or after market tuner will solve that problem and you'll have a much better performing (and cooler) engine. The after market tuners have a wide range of capabilities from canned maps ($) based on your particular set-up to realtime tuners that tune as you drive ($$$). You can get a free flow air cleaner for relatively little money or blow a lot on a complete intake replacement. Most of that depends on what you want it to look like.

dont have to, but its stil EPA lean on the A/F ratio.

1ST mod I did to my bike when I bought her new in 07 was pipes, SE A/C, SERT and dyno to get her running better and Coolers.

What if you install just a new exhaust? Would that also make the bike run leaner?

I would do a tune with those pipes and get the air cleaner if you need one. Those pipes replace the whole exhaust, not just mufflers. Like mswing1234 said, there are a lot of advantages to getting a tune.

Do you mean a "dyno" tune? I have a stage 1 installed by previous owner (by dealer) with CFR mufflers(if you can call them that) and it seems to run very lean to me. I can't imagine they did not at least install a "canned" map with the stage 1. I have been considering putting it on the dyno, but with these minimal upgrades, would it be a waste of money?

What kind of tuner do you have (single stg 1 download or SERT or PC etc)? There is most likely a canned map that would work fine. Dyno tune may be a little much like you said, prob not necessary or worth it. Also what kind of intake do you want?

Just using the se filter with stock cover. efi race tuner kit. pops alot on decel. I have a fair amount of experience tuning dirt bike carbs, this has always indicated lean to me, but efi? I don't know.

Check this thread out. I went with this deal to complete my stage 1. Very cheap and good quality. Installed myself. Fuel moto programs the power commander to your specs so it's just plug and play..

Most likely it is too lean which should be a quick fix, i have also heard it could be a small exhaust leak. either way its not a major fix
