Default Wide 21 or 23 help.

So this is my night train. I put a FL front end on it and now the rim/tire seems way skinny. So do I put a 21x3.5 w/a 140 or 120 tire on or go to a 23? Don't want fat spokes want a 60 spoke set up like my rim now. Help me decide, thanks

Wow that looks awesome! I think the 21/140 set up. I assume you are running it fenderless like the photo?

I think the 21/120 would look better and a little sportier

Ok here's my 2 cents...

With that front I'd def go with a 130x21 It flows right the way it sits now and probably just needs a little more meat on the tires

If you wanted to go bigger why bother with a 23? Jump straight up to 26, your probably going to have to rake it anyway

Lundee,

Awesome looking Train! I'll pass on my experimentation's with front tire sizes on my Train. The rear set up is a 16 x 150 series tire with Progressive shocks lowered 1 inch. The stock front 90 series tire always felt too twitchy and followed every grove in the road. Purchased a 21 x 3.25 wide rim from Hog Pro and mounted a 120 series tire. This 120 tire plus the addition of a fork brace improved handling tremendously. (Photo 1) I ride aggressively and with confidence.

Recently powder coated a 16 inch wheel off a Heritage, installed new bearings and mounted a 140 series tire. (Photo 2) Everything bolted up correctly and the wheel was centered perfectly. Cornering required more physical effort which I expected however on sharp curves the bike felt as if the rear wheel was going to brake free and slide in the opposite direction of the turn. Scary!!! Tried different air pressures and shock heights but couldn't dial it in. Removed the 140 and went back to the 120.

Summery; The best handling wheel/tire combinations I've found so far is a 16 x 150 in the rear and a 21 x 120 in the front with a fork brace.

Good Luck.
