Chain conversion for 87 FXST: Spacing or offset info needed!
Hey guys. Just wondering if anyone out there had done this before. Im converting my 87 never-ending project to a chain drive. I was wondering if anyone knew what the maximum spacing was that a person could use running stock hubs and without relocating the primary. For the front sprocket I have heard everything from .85" to 1.00". And Im still out on whether or not I want to run a dished or flat rear sprocket. Im also currently running a 160 rear tire, and would like room to upgrade to a 180 in the future. Oh, and Im definitely going with a 530 chain, dont need to get all crazy with a 630. Any advice/tech tips/experience would be appreciated.
And before you guys start in on me, I have heard the arguments on belt vs. chain. I know the maintenance is going up, but I ride on a lot of gravel roads and have popped 2 belts already, just tired of it. Thanks for all your help.
