Default Pipe help please

So I bought a used Harley from my local dealer about 9 months ago. The bike has some v&h short pipes on it but I want to put either some v&h longhots or big shot longs on it. My question is can I just switch out the pipes or am I going to have to do the tuner or whatever all extra stuff is when putting on an exhaust (I am not mechanically inclined). I believe when the origanal v&h were installed they were done at the dealership so it already has the tuner or power commander or whatever.

If it were my bike, I'd want to know what is or is not installed, especially where my engine is concerned. First, I'd remove the seat and see if there is anything plugged in series with the ECM. That's the black module mounted to the back fender. However; there are tuners that are not left connected to your bike. Or have your dealer run your VIN and see if they have records of what they or any other H-D dealer have done. Is the air cleaner stock?

If your bike is running good now, it should still run good changing to another exhaust.
Most dealers that just change the exhaust don't bother to flash the ECU or add a tuner.

Sounds like total confusion. U don't know what U've got and I sure as Heck don't know.

I'd want to know what been done to any bike I owned.

If all its had done is pipes then, as above said, just change to Ur new one. If U have a HP A/C then, IF ur have a F/M, then it probably would be better to retune it when U change pipes.
