Default air breather adapter kit necessary?

I am a proud owner of a 2011 fat boy. I will be be replacing the stock AC soon with a RSN or something similiar. My previous bike (06 Sportster) had a breather kit with the AC so the blow-by did not go into the intake. I am not sure if this will be needed for EFI models. Any help would be appreciated.

Most of the aftermarket one have it built into the mounting bracket. there are some that will still require a kit. you'll have to look closely at the photos or check the description to make sure.

The RSD A/C kits have ports that direct the blow by directly to the intake port so it doesn't have to pass through the filter like my stock 07 Sportster did. The V & H V02 Naked I put on mine has bypass hoses that direct the blow by directly into the intake port. If you look for your model of bike for either one of these you will see the same thing.

I am actually considering the V&H AC you mentioned. According to some people, directing the blow-by into the intake reduces performace and cause carbon build up. This is why I am wondering if I need a air breather kit with a catch can. Really would like to get the most from my AC and not have oil dripping or spraying from it. BTW, NRHS has some info regarding this. Thanks

@NRHS. I had your Hurricane AC on my sportster that included the breather kit. I am little confused why I would not need a similar set up eventhough this is not a CV Carb.

@NRHS...BTW, my indy was impressed with the performance of the AC with Rush slip-ons. Raising the front in 2nd gear with stock engine.

@DOMAPOI, I seen this AC on Denniskirk's website. It seems to be a good AC for the $$$. BTW, what cover did you use and where did you purchase it? Thanks

I bought my V&H A/C from eBay for &124.95 w/free shipping where I also bought my cover. The covers part # is 29153-07 at the HD dealer. Most people buy the flat covers that only cover the end of the filter. I wanted to avoid the rain sock deal for the rain. I bought mine on eBay too for $24.00 plus shipping. Here is one that is going for $29.97 on eBay now:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/HARLEY-7-SMO...58dcc9&vxp=mtr

The cover has a cut out part (about 1/3 of the way around and about 1/4 of the way up from the inside edge). (I have not been able to find a picture of one showing the cut out) That and because of the angled shape of the K&N filter, there is ample clearance around the inside of the cover and the filter to allow for great air flow. I guess if you wanted to you could turn the cover so that it acts as a scoop, to scoop in the air but I have mine turned so that it is pointing at about a 7:30 angle (like on a clock) so it won't scoop in rain drops, bugs, rocks, road crud etc. etc., as I a driving. Never have to worry about the rain when it comes to my A/C.

Not sure but I think every state in the union requires now that all internal combustion motor vehicles have some kind of PCV valve that feed the output back into the intake. Cars with combustion engine have them above a certain year as do motorcycles sold in the U.S. now. My stock one had it being vented into the dirty side of the filter and even though the amount of oil (in vapor form) coming from the blow-by is miniscule, over time it does add up on the filter. By putting it on the clean side and pointing it into the actual intake vent eliminates that build up. The amount of oil vapor is , again, so miniscule that it would not effect performance at all. If you have so much oil coming from your blow-by that it effects your bikes performance, you need to get that engine rebuilt and or at least put new rings on your pistons and new valve seals.

I pulled my backing plate and hit with a black engine enamel, thru a KN on, bought a 3d skull air cleaner cover from bad baggers. I'm happy with it, have to realize I dont care for alot of flash...just a preference thing. I understand the flash just not on mine. * grinz
