06 softail deluxe oil change question

Default 06 softail deluxe oil change question

i changed my oil today. Engine, chaincase, and tranny. i filled all according to the owners manual. i put 26 oz in the chaincase. is that enough? sure doesnt seem like it is. does anyone add more than that?

After I drain it, I just put a quart (32oz) in the primary case. I fill it through the inspection cover, not the derby cover. That way, I can inspect/adjust the primary chain tension. If you really want to be precise, it requires that you open the derby cover and visually look at the level of the fluid on the clutch-pack. IMHO, one does not need to be crazy precise.

I believe the 96 CI motors take the quart but most of the 88s like my 05 deluxe calls for the 26 ounces

yeah according to my service manual the 96 does call for the full quart.

I read that too. Mine was not filled to the right level at only 26 oz. In the past I found it needed closer to the whole quart to get it to the right level. Now, I just add the quart. Actually, probably an oz. less than a quart because it is hard to get that last oz. out of the container into the inspection hole. No problems as of yet.
