Default Primary Oil

This may be a silly question, but here it goes. If I am only going to change the oil in the primary and not adjust the clutch, is there any reason to remove the derby cover and change that gasket?

You don't say what year your bike is. Does it have an inspection cover for the primary? My '06 does and this is where I put the primary oil in.

I guess you could put the oil in like you do on the foot of an outboard. Never tried that but think I will next time I change it.

shouldn't have to change the o ring on the derby cover. i changed mine several times on my 01 with no problem with no replacement.

Just dump the oil in through the inspection cover. You won't need to replace the gasket unless it's damaged. Still using my original one and still in good shape.

Pouring oil through the derby hole is a bitch. Never do that. Always through the inspection cover if you have one. FYI, my gasket is not a o-ring but rather some kind of plastic disk thingie.
