Thank you for all the input - have some things to think about. 10K is my max - I would have to hold off on performance upgrades for a while. Much appreciation for your help.

06 was a bastard year. First year 200 rear tire, still a had a 3/4 rear axle, and a one year offset rear wheel. you would be better off to find an 07 up.

As I understand it (I heard this from a Service manager, never confirmed it) the HD 6 speed still has a 1:1 top gear ratio. You had to buy the SE "upgrade" to get overdrive. Personally, I wish I had an overdrive tranny... because I do a lot of long distance riding.

If you want a hot rod, buy a much older bike for much less and really put some punch in it. If you really like the NT and don't care about money, you can make it go fast too. If you don't do the work it will take a lot more money.

For $2k you can get some head work and a set of cams for example. If you really want it to go fast, you have to do everything beyond an air cleaner and pipes. If you just want to change >where< the torque is, you can do that with a cam. If you want to brag at your local watering hole you can get a cam that makes it >sound< like you've got some muscle. If you want real muscle, you have to have a properly selected and dyno coordinated set of intake, heads, valves, compression, cubes, and cams and on an EFI bike, an ECM. Everything in between is just a hobby. There's nothing wrong with that but it hasn't got anything to do with a purchase price decision when compared to what you like and want, IMHO.
