Default Cleaning spokes/wheels.

I just thought I would share this as I would guess no one really likes cleaning spokes/wheels. I am a clean freak so I tried something on my spokes and it worked really well. I bought the "mother's power ball", it is a sponge ball that attach's to the end of a drill. It also comes with a 10" extension which I used and got my inner hub as bright as can be also. I did both wheels, all the spokes and inner hub in about 15 or 20 minutes and they looked brand new. I used the Mothers California gold detailer spray and the power ball and it was a snap. You have to hold on to the drill but once you get it down its a snap and it did an excellent job on the wheels and spokes and like I said, even the inner hub. You have to collapse the ball then spin it once its inside of the spokes. I wouldn't try forcing it through the spokes while its turning needless to say. I am not endorsing any one product as but thats the only one I know of that makes something like that.

Never thought of using that but I have just used a wheel cleaning spray product like Mequiars. Spray it on, hose it off - has worked great for me.

You don't dry it after wards? If not don't you have water spots plus don't you then get a rag and with the tip of your finger go between each and every spoke? Then put a rag inside the spokes and pull it back and forth to get the hub? It never mattered what I tried if I didn't dry it I had spots and then I had to still get the grime and spots out between the spokes. I'm just a major clean freak, one water spot would bother me! I have spent hours on my wheels alone! Its one of the main reasons I want custom wheels but I love the 16's and they do not have as many options as all the other wheel sizes. I love the fat daddys with the 80, 100 spoke count but man those would drive me nuts trying to keep clean. I thought of it, bought one and tried it. I won't ever spend countless hours again on my wheels and spokes, not with that power ball on a drill anyway. It was just something I wanted to throw out there to share with everyone else.

To get the inner hub you just collapse the ball, you know, squeeze it together in your hands and slip it through the spokes. Have it attached to the 10" extension that comes with the power ball and then just kind of lift it and angle to downward onto the inner hub. Pull it back out, rotate the wheel a little bit and repeat those steps. I have the bike up on a lift so that makes spinning the wheel a snap too. Its not foolproof or magic but it does work, much much better then anything I have ever had or tried before, thats for sure! Like I said, it used to take me hours, now its 15, 20 minutes, tops and they looked like brand new too! Of course, my bike is an 06 and still only has 4800 miles on it but with this thing I plan on them looking the same with a ton more miles on them!! I am sure this is not what it is made for but I don't think they or anyone else has ever thought of it either! When I saw it hanging on the shelf it was like a light bulb going off! I think it waas 19, maybe 29 bucks, I don't remember but to me? Its worth every penny and I don't care if it isn't made for this, it works and thats what I am going to use it for! It also got in between many places I could never get my fingers before when waxing or polishing the bike. I did my chrome inner rear fender rock gaurd in 2 minutes! Heads? 2 minutes! Top of the tranny, 2 minutes! It worked for me, I am just sharing the news is all.

Tony: How about adding some pictures to your description. That's one area of the bike I can't stand cleaning. Thanks for the post.
