Interchangeable Tri-bar tail light?

Interchangeable Tri-bar tail light?
I bought a Tri-bar tail light for my FXSTC while on vacation in TX but didn't realize the light was actually for a DYNA (fits same year...2008).
Local HD dealer said it wouldn't work on my bike & couldn't swap it out for the right one (something about messing up their inventory count), so I'm wondering if there's ANY way to make the DYNA Tri-bar work on my Softail Custom? Are the wiring clips different in some way?
I remember seeing a pig-tail adapter in a catalog somewhere but can't remember where.
