After all my riding buddies complained that my tail lights were hard to see in the sun because they blend in with the color of my 2013 Ember Red Sunglow SG, I decided to get the Custom Dynamics LED tail lights which helped but I wanted more. I added the cheap ineffective plastic accessory HD light and wasn't impressed with it so I figured I would cut the wire off of it and install a tail light from an 09 SG. I didn't want to cut the fender so I modified the tail light base so I could just stick it on with double sided tape, I hope I can find some 3M tape strong enough to hold it, maybe something automotive, otherwise I will go ahead and drill out the fender and bolt it on.
WOW now looks like it should...an 08 Street glide with a tail light, hummm. I guess they gave you a new frame so they kept the tail light. I got the tail light and fixed the frame issue with a bagger brace. 6 one way half dozen the other...I am headed to the BAL light for mine ASAP. I want folks to SEE MY BEHIND!
I have the CD tail lights and swapped the bottom tribar with the HD brake/run LEDs and my friends think it puts out lots of light when braking but my SG is BBP. I think your changing the whole look of the bike with that light IMO. You should look into the led light bars from CD that installs between your bags and fender. Looks great and lights up real bright. Do a search here lots of info on it or call CD. Maybe somebody here can chime in with more info.
The first mod I made was adding the HD tri-bar upgrade but it is not very noticeable in the daylight against the red bike. I was looking at the plasma rods at Biketoberfest when I purchased the LED clusters at the CD trailer but I prefer the look of the "old school" SG fender. I ended up using 3M VHB double sided tape to attach the tail light base to the fender, great stuff and I can remove it without damage to the fender if I change my mind.
Part numbers for the stock '09 tail light are 68066-99A Base and 68142-04 Lamp. For me it was $100 well spent.
