Default Few questions after 1K service at dealer, please help a newb!

Ok, so I just got my Slim back after the 1K service. I had them switch me over to synthetic and do the full 1K. Be gentle, I'm not much of a Harley mechanic, only my second one after years of sport bikes.

I had mentioned to the service writer that I was getting a lot of decel popping. They put the V&H 2in2 pipes, RSD intake, and tuned with screaming eagle tuner before purchased. He told me they would go in an zero out the decel on the map with my screaming eagle tuner and it was a common request. I'm not too knowledged on performance tuners and this sort of stuff, so forgive me. I was fine with the original popping, but after I hear sometimes the mixture can fowl plugs etc.., I thought I should have it checked to be safe. The mechanic said it had little change after he zero'd out on decel, but I could tell it did mellow it out a bit. One thing I noticed though, is it seemed that it mellowed it out all around. For example, if I blap my throttle at a light, it doesn't seem as loud or shocking?? Am I crazy, or would zeroing out the decel affect the all around sound that much?

Secondly, I noticed is my throttle is much looser. As in the grip is a lot easier to twist. I noticed it right away and don't know if the was just from a lube/adjustment during the tune? I never had any other bike have such a change in the throttle feel. It seems just changing my body position I can move the throttle unintentionally.

Lastly, Before my service I was getting to the point the clutch cable had been broke in enough that I had to push it forward with my fingers after shifting to get it in the forward position, which I found normal on new bike. They did adjust the clutch in the tune and it seem much better, but it still stops a small amount short before it's all the way forward still. Is it normal to have that much play?

Thanks for the help guys

It sounds like the throttle cables have been adjusted and are not adjusted exactly as they were before. It is an easy fix with a few wrenches. As far as the decel popping I tend to think that your bike is still running a bit lean or has an exhaust leak, the first being more likely. You can adjust the play on the throttle cable once again with a few simple wrenches and set it anywhere you like. I am sure where they set it is fine, but changing it only takes a few minutes.

This is just me but for what you paid for your bike and having paid for the tune, if you are not happy or have questions or doubts, I would take it right back!! Its a motto I live by, I take or think nothing is a "small" problem! I have seen many "small" problems cost guys motors, tranny's and so much more! If you think there is a problem, there is usually a problem!! If for NO other reason then peace of mind, I would take it back. Its a new bike Dude, if your not a wrench, don't guess or gamble!

I agree. You paid a ton for it new, right? Make them get it the way you want it, not the way they tell you it SHOULD be! They will do that to you

Can't help much on the programmer end, but sounds like they lubed and adjusted your throttle grip and cables. Give it a couple hundred miles and it'll feel natural once again. Sounds like they also adjusted the clutch, as they should have, and there will be some free play at the lever. Depending on your tech, you should be able to fit the edge of a nickel between the lever and perch where the cable connects. Its called free play, and it is normal with a proper adjustment, but shouldn't be excessive. Check out YouTube for some vids and get some background on what the adjustment entails. if you still have questions, take it back to them, but being armed with info is a good idea as the stealer loves to blow smoke up your *** if they don't know the right answer.

Thanks everyone, I'm going to go speak to them about the tune they did. I do want to dyno this summer, but want it set well until then.

Good info on the clutch. I knew there should be some play, but didnt know how to check it. I would say I have a bit more than a nickle of play between the perch and cable end when pulled. I'll have them check that too. So use to bike that have adjusters right on the lever, but from my reading here, you can adjust the cable a bit alone at the mid cable point.

Thanks again. Loving this bike more than anything I have owned
