New 2012 Fatboy Lo
-This bike has an OBSCENE amount of torque!! Puts my goldwing to shame. My goldwing is likely faster, but the idea of just rolling the throttle from 1500 rpms is f'ing cool!!!
-Backrest is on the way for the wife. I couldn't believe it cost me $400 for a backrest!! Wife keeps sliding off the back seat. Once we get it, we'll decide if she needs a new seat or not.
-My seat is fairly comfortable, but I sit in a position that is not neutral. In other words, my hands don't just lie on the handlebars. I am holding myself forward. I can't really tell yet if that is due to the curvature of the seat persuading me to lean back, or if it is the position of the handlebars. I've got to figure that one out soon.
-I'm actually a bit surprised with the bike's suspension as is. Honestly, I was expecting a wallowing pig. However, the insanely low center of gravity makes this 700 pound bike very easy to handle at slow speeds (much easier than my goldwing). The rear shock was more compliant than I thought it would be. I went looking for bumps... even with the wife on the back. No bottoming yet. Oddly, the front felt more "rough" than the back. I was expecting just the opposite. Pleasantly surprised.
Upcoming plans:
If I decide on a new seat, I was looking at the C&C sport touring model. I'd love to hear comments from anyone who has one.
I'm not very fond of the stock pipes. And who is the rocket scientist at Harley who thought it would be a good idea for the passenger footpeg to extend between the pipes?? I think I like the V&H big radius 2 into 2.
I like the look of the street slammer bars, but I'll be more concerned about ergonomics first. I like to ride more than I like to look at my bike.
MS Batwing is a definite possibility for wind management. But I'll have to paint mine flat black. I just think the windshields look incomplete. Plus, the batwing looks like it provides some protection for the hands. I'd love to hear from anyone who has one about what it does to the "envelope" of air around the rider. I have a suzuki Vstrom and the windshield I have for it does a good job of getting the air over my head, but there is a strong updraft that comes from my lap up through the bottom of the helmet. Different windshield/fairings make different things happen in the rider's envelope.
I think a shotgun air shock and Ricor intiminators are definitely in my future. Stock suspensions never work well (my experience). A bit of attention here always is money well spent.
I'm not in a terrible hurry, but eventually I'd like to get an A/B. I haven't decided which one, but I'd like to maintain the stock cover. Once I get that, I'll need a tuner. So far, I'm considering the PCV. I like the things I have read about it and I called fuel moto to talk to those guys and they are great. I love the idea of having good tech support.
OK....that's it for now. Any comments or suggestions about the stuff above are greatly appreciated.
Jimbo out.
