Ive been restoring my 1997 Fatboy all winter long and i just tried to crank the engine over for the first time . The only thing that happened is that i heard the starter spin but doesnt turn the motor. It free spins. Keep in mind this bike was stripped completly and then all put back including motor ,starter and tranny. Could someone help would love to ride it this weekend........

 

Well, I'll be keeping an eye on this one.

I just got through doing the inner primary bng, bike started, I ran it up and down the street. Shut it off, now the starter just spins, and the starter drive doesn't engage.

Took it off, tried to jump the starter...no luck.

It has been acting hard to start recently before I did the bng...if not, off to the dealer in the AM to see if they can bench test it...prolly not..

 

Id check the starter clutch.

 

Well i figured it all out!! While getting in a hurry about finishing my ride i left a part off lmao. In between the primary and starter is a coupling that connects starter to the bendex inside the primary..Duhhhhhh thats while it was spinning free......
