Guys,
I have done a lot of troubleshooting on my bike in the last couple of months tracking down a leak..there were several threads here on it.
Well today, while doing some routine inspections I noticed that the top bolt in my 3 hole derby cover would not tighten in the primary. It appears that over time the aluminum mat have stripped. I moved the bolts and am sure the issue is the top bolt mount in the 3 hole primary.
Any quick and safe fixes other then replace the outer primary?
a larger diameter bolt ? i think the mount would probably be too fragile to retap..
Its likely 1/4_20. Take the bolt to the hardware store with you. Show the guy and hell set you up. You'll need to look on the tap that comes in the kit for the proper bit size. For a 1/4-20 bolt you'll need I believe a 17/64 . drill it out, run the tap through (use some oil on it). Run the helicoil into it snap of the tab and your set. I'd use red lock right on the helicoil. Use regular blue on the bolt. Should be a 10 minute fix. If you do it with the cover still on the bike stuff rags in there so no shavings get in the primary.
