OK.... I was thinking about the street slammer bars for my 2012 fatboy lo. I tried them on the "demo" bike at the dealer and I liked the hand position better than stock. However, I'm concerned that I may fall out of love with the way they look. The built in risers look very narrow with respect to the top triple clamp. I think it may not be following the lines of the bike very well. So, the more I look the more I am convinced that the apes do the best job of preserving the lines of the lo. I'm not talking about the RSD apes (or similar) with the sharp corners. The lo has very rounded lines and the sharp corners seem to conflict.
I really can't take the idea of the huge apes (i.e. 18"). However, 12" apes may work. Does anyone have 12" apes on their fatboy lo? I'd love to see pictures of it. Also, would I need to extend wires and cables with 12" apes or can I use stock?
If you are thinking of 12" apes, go with 14" apes. Best bet is to actually measure what fits you. Go to BR Custom bar's web page and there is a good talk through of how to measure.
I agree with you want something with rounded lines not jagged bars they wont match! I would go with 14" black regular apes or Carlini Gangster apes for the Lo!
Sit on your bike and close your eyes. Raise your hands to where they are most comforatble and open your eyes. This is generally the best height. The problem with just throwing a figure out is the number of variables involved- height of the rider, arm length, stock or aftermarket seat (this can affect rider height and position), etc...
Are you looking for maximum comfort, coolness factor, or a combination?
I have Carlini 12" Flyin Apes but they actually measure around 13.5". I'm 5'6" and these bars put my hands at shoulder height. I originally had Drag Bars and the comfort difference is night and day for me but everyone is different.
With some homework you should be able to get the bars that fit you best. Good luck!
So, I'm thinking about the HD 12" mini apes. However, I really doubt that I'll need any cable extensions. Has anyone installed 12" apes on the FB Lo? Did you need extensions?
Been trying to talk my wife into apes on her fatboy, took her to a dealer with the fit bike all setup. They had the mini-ape kit to try and i was mislead in the whole 12 inch ape is really not even a 10 inch ape with tall risers.
