Default The Deluxe is ready for some mods!

After having the bike out for my first long (180mi) ride today, I reaffirmed the suggestion that I'll need to make my tall, 6'5" self more comfortable.

After readying posts and doing other research I thought that I'd start with a new seat. However, on my way back from the ride I stopped by an HD store and utilized their "Fit bike." I had my heart set on a Tall Boy seat originally, but after pairing that with the stock Deluxe handlebars, I still wasn't feeling it. I might be 6'5", but I'm a lot of torso. The staff member swapped out the handlebars for both some mini-apes and stock Heritage, and I definitely preferred the Heritage bars. I think even the Heritage bars with the stock seat will be better than the Heritage and Tall Boy, because I think that seat just sits me up too high.

So, I'm not entirely sold on the Heritage bars just yet, but I am thinking that bars will be a more welcome modification towards comfort than a new seat. Granted, I do need to stretch my feet out a little more when I'm riding around town and can't utilize the highway pegs, so maybe a floorboard relocation kit to move them an inch forward?

What do you guys think? Has anyone ever been in a similar situation? I would like to try and do it right since bars and cables look like they'll be twice the cost of a seat.

Thanks!

Lot of apes in this crowd. They'll be right behind me..

I'd keep the stock seat and go with some taller handlebars...

i am only 6' and the seat is pretty terrible for me. so i am sending off seat to be re-shaped.. (tailbone relief cut in it and move me back an inch or so). mean city cycles.. got a timeslot on the 23rd of may for them to modify the stock deluxe seat. which i really like the looks of and wanted to keep.

Running Carlini's 1.5" Freeways and waiting on my C&C solo seat. Post a pic for you Tuesday see if maybe thats the route you may want to go. Thought about throwing a set of Heritage bars on my FB to save some bux but glad I went the Freeway route. Seats, I must have looked at every seat made before settling on the C&C. Had a mustang(it was ok), tried a lepera(wasnt impressed, HD's badlander(didnt care for)...

Oh yeah...had to add, when the Vincia crowd gets back they'll be spending your money no doubt * grinz

Thanks for all the advice, guys.

So, where's the best place to buy new bars and cables? HD priced me about $900 for parts and labor, but I think I'll do the work myself since I'm fairly mechanically inclined and have the service manual. Anyway, I think parts alone would be $400-500 at HD. Are there any sponsors on the board that could hook me up?

I have the lepera bare bones and after 50 miles or so, I found my sweet spot. I love it. I'm 5'9" and have 16" bars and love em. I would talk to Dr. VTWIN, they usually have some good pricing.

My bars are RSD king apes. They were around $300 I believe then another $175 for stainless steel cables. Also have 1-1/2" riser.

I am only 6 1" but on the stock seat of the Deluxe I was really uncomfortable and way too crowded up front on the bike. I really did like the look of the stock seat so I was hesitant to change it out......but after so much discomfort, I did! The best solution I found and one I strongly recommend is to replace the seat with a Heritage Springer seat. Given it is no longer in production e-bay will be your best bet (and it will be pretty pricey) but it is an awesome looking seat with a classic seat rail and the best part is it will bring you up at least 2 inches and it will push you back more than 3 inches!

I have ridden 3,000 miles this summer on this seat and couldn't be happier......hope that helps!

I'm 6'2", fairly long legs and arms. I made the switch to Heritage bars, keeping the stock pullback risers, and moved the boards and controls forward and out. I've had a few different seats on the bike, but the stock Deluxe is so far the most comfortable with the setup. I am considering having an inch shaved off the back of it, but going to wait till the year is done to see how I settle in to it as is.
